A Run for Presidency

Imagine a world where we would have a colored president. You imagine Barack Obama, right? He was the first president. But he was not the first colored person to run for the presidency. George Edwin Taylor was an African American who ran for president in the wrong place and the wrong time. Taylor was part of the dozen of his siblings that had an enslaved father and a free mother. Besides being part of a dozen Taylor was a very confident man that didn't let anything get in his way for what he desires.

In Taylor's early years, he had a thoughtful life. He studied at the University of Beaver Dam until his last year of school. Taylor had feeble health which caused him to drop out within his year of graduating. After this incident, Taylor started to work for a newspaper column. Which help him write about labor politics.

Around the 1890's Taylor was living in Iowa and still had an interest in politics. He had so much interest that he actually became part of one of the parties. The Republican party to be exact, but then, later on, decided to be with the Democrats

Somehow along the way of Taylor's life, he decided to run for the presidency. In some aspects of his campaign, it was taken as a joke. Although Taylor was confident about what he was doing. He didn't care about what people thought of him. From this confidence, Taylor had made a difference in many people's eyes. Even though he did not win, we can take this event into a  bigger picture.

To look at this now in the present we can see the times have changed but in some aspects, the minds of people have not. Obama for starters had a huge impact on many people but since he was a man of color, he also had much hate. Maybe he looked back in the past of George Edwin Taylor and made that event into a reality but not including the not win the part.
