Impeached Who?

In the 1860s Lincoln made the decision of making Andrew Johnson his vice president. The question would be why? but also how? Since they had very different views. Even so, Abraham had a great presidency but until his life was taken away. Then Andrew Johnson had to step up to the platform and become the president and during his presidency the actions he took affect us even now. Including the actions that led him to be impeached.

Even though Andrew Johnson and Abraham Lincoln had their own opposing views. They were very much alike as well since they both came up from poverty. But why did Lincoln choose Johnson as his VP? For Lincoln choosing, Johnson was a tactical decision, since he won over the votes for the Democrats of the North. Lincoln had to strategies his motives on how to win over the South's favor. Which led him to think that Andrew Johnson would be the perfect fit.

Since the death of Lincoln, Johnson had to move up to become the president. Johnson first tries to start to unify the South. By doing this he let the southern states elect new governors. He also tried to let the congress accept new southern members. But the U.S congress refused this action. Johnson also had the decision to veto the Civil Right's which was protecting the color folk.

There are many reasons why was Andrew Johnson was impeached. But, the most hilarious reason was him removing a sectary (Edwin Stanton) from office. Since Johnson and Lincoln had their own little beef (different opinion) with Edwin Stanton. Even though they had their problem with Stanton, Johnson thought it would be a political decision for Stanton removal. This made Johnson break the law of the Tenure of Office Act.

Since this incident occur the congress decided to have Johnson on trial. Since his decision of the removal was marked unconstitutional. Yet in the end, the ruling vote was thirty-five guilty opposing to nineteen not guilty. Sadly, this did not meet the two-third mark. Which means that Johnson was not convicted.
