Lighting Things Up

You know that "ding!" noise you hear in your head when you have a great idea that involves a light-bulb? You didn't? Well, so didn't Thomas Edison

For a long time in our childhood, everyone has made us believe that the light-bulb was invented by Thomas Edison!

Which was a fun fact to know but it was a lie! During the 1800s an inventor in Italy named Alessandro Volta was first to create an invention that can spark up some type of light. His invention included copper and carbonated water, even though it was a small touch of light. It still sparked up several other inventors to try the same invention for a type of electrical light.

For starters inventor, Humprey Davey made the first functional lamp! Even though it was an improvement from Volta's invention it still had complications. It was a bust (failure) since it died out too quickly and it was way too bright for any home/work usage.

But during the 1850s Joseph Swan also had his own little influence on the matter of the light-bulb. He used carbonated paper for his invention. Also, he placed his invention under a vacuum to minimize the use of oxygen. This invention was also a bust since this light-bulb also went out very quickly.

Thomas Edison intake all of these inventions and studied off of Joseph Swan's invention the most. From Swan's invention, Edison figured out that Swan's mistake was the type of filament. Edison worked on his invention with a different type of filament and demonstrated it.

Swan saw this and made Edison's improvement into his own light-bulb and started a company out of it. From this Edison decided to take Swan to court for patent infringement! Both turned in their patent but Swan's was more solid than Edison's. Eventually, they both joined forces together and had the company together.

There were other inventors that also had claims of inventing the light-bulbs but Edison bought them off!

In my final statement, I say that Thomas Eddison did not invent the lightbulb but although he did improve it and that has its credit in its own way.
